The University of Missouri-St. Louis swimming teams competed against Rockhurst University in a dual meet on Friday at the UMSL Swimming Pool, resulting in a split outcome. The women's team secured a 140-65 win, while the men's team was narrowly defeated by Rockhurst with a score of 105-100.
The Triton women claimed victory in nine out of eleven events. Justice Beard led the effort with first-place finishes in both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle races, recording times of 10:28.18 and 5:03.95 respectively. Libby Smith won the 200 free with a time of 1:59.77.
In the 50 free event, Audrey Lantz took first place at 24.77 seconds, followed by Romina Itzkovich (25.20) and Madison Bottorff (25.27). Callie Clinton finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.49, while Lantz also captured first place in the 100 free at 54.21 seconds; Bottorff placed second at 55.64.
Aeri La edged out Ella Lantz to win the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.57 seconds. The women's relay teams also performed well, as E. Lantz, Stella Garrison, A. Lantz and Beard won the 400-yard medley relay (3:57.49), and Itzkovich, Bottorff, E. Lantz and La claimed victory in the 400 free relay (3:41.42).
On the men's side, UMSL won five out of eleven events during the meet against Rockhurst University here. Mikael Larsson contributed wins in both distance freestyle races—posting times of 10:03.35 for the 1,000 and 4:40.85 for the 500.
In sprint events, Lathan Parks finished first in the men’s 50 free (21.65), just ahead of Gabriel Wells (21.74). Kaleb Suitor won the men’s 100 fly with a time of 51.61 seconds.
The men’s relay team composed of Mattia Nardi, Parks, Gentry Comstock and Larsson won their race by nearly one second with a finishing time of 3:09.91.
Both UMSL swimming teams will return to competition on Saturday, November 8th when they travel to Kirksville to face Truman State at Pershing Natatorium starting at 1 p.m.
