Rob Arvin has been appointed as the head coach for both the men's and women's cross country teams at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, according to an announcement from Executive Director of Athletics Dr. Holly Sheilley on Monday. Arvin replaces Steve Picucci, who left to join Tennessee-Chattanooga.

"I would like to thank Executive Director of Athletics Dr. Holly Sheilley and the Athletic Department for their confidence in me to lead the men's and women's cross country programs and the opportunity to meet the academic and athletic standards expected at UMSL," said Arvin.

Arvin previously served as an assistant coach for two seasons with the Tritons. During his tenure, he helped guide the men’s team to consecutive fourth-place finishes at the 2023 and 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference championship meets, marking a new high in program history.

He also played a role in mentoring All-GLVC performers Benjamin VandenBrink and Jacob Warner. VandenBrink secured second place at the 2023 GLVC Championships in Bolivar, Missouri, and qualified individually for the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships. Warner received All-GLVC honors in both 2023 and 2024.

On the women’s side, Arvin contributed to an eighth-place finish at the 2023 GLVC Cross Country championships—the highest placement recorded by the program. Kayley Heeter finished 28th overall at that meet, which was also a program best for individual performance.

Beyond coaching, Arvin has competed as a student athlete in both cross country and track events. He continues his running career at master level distances including half marathons and marathons, having participated in two World Marathon Majors.

Arvin holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and communications from SIU-Edwardsville and earned his master’s degree in business management from Webster University.
