The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team began its 2025 season with a 1-1 draw against Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday evening at Panther Field in Owensboro, Kentucky. Both teams now hold records of 0-0-1.
UMSL took an early lead when Tommy Wortham scored his first collegiate goal in the fifth minute, sending a shot into the upper right corner. The Tritons nearly doubled their advantage 17 minutes later, but Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss's attempt was stopped by Kentucky Wesleyan goalkeeper Iver Sjavag.
Kentucky Wesleyan responded in the 41st minute as Mattie McNally scored with an assist from Haakon Torvbraaten to tie the match.
Just before halftime, UMSL's Solomon Wanyonyi had a chance to regain the lead, but his shot struck the left post and stayed out.
In the final 20 minutes, UMSL created two more opportunities. Wortham hit the crossbar in the 75th minute, and with just under six minutes remaining, Aoueiss saw another shot saved by Sjavag.
UMSL ended the match outshooting Kentucky Wesleyan 6-4, with both teams recording three shots on goal.
The Tritons are scheduled to play their next game on Wednesday, September 10, traveling to Chicago to face Roosevelt at 6 p.m.
