Missouri St. Louis women’s tennis opens fall season at Cougar Invite

The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team began its fall season at the SIU Edwardsville Cougar Invite, held Friday and Saturday at the SIUE Tennis Courts.

Aleksandra Lopez led the Tritons with a 2-0 record in singles matches. On Friday, she overcame SIUE's Jessica Li in three sets after losing the first set 6-0, then winning 6-3 and taking the tiebreak 10-5. On Saturday, Lopez secured another victory against Saint Louis University's Fiorella Duran in a closely contested match: 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (2-7), and 10-6.

Alexandra Cedeno finished the weekend with one win and one loss. She defeated SIUE's Emerson Metzger 8-0 but was edged out by SLU's Nicolly Ferreira in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 5-10.

In doubles play on Saturday, Hannah Tse and Morgan Lint recorded a win over SLU's Ferreira and Emmerson White with a score of 6-3. Cedeno paired with Lauren Sweeney to go 1-1; they beat SIUE's Emerson Metzger and Chloe Koons in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), but lost their first match to SIUE's Paloma Hennicaux and Mya Bowe, 6-1.

UMSL is scheduled to return to action on Friday, September 12, when it hosts Missouri Baptist for a dual match at Dwight Davis Tennis Center starting at 10 a.m.
