University of Missouri-St. Louis senior Will Kaempfe won his second consecutive race by finishing first at the Larry Young Invitational on Friday evening. The event took place at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri.
The men's team from UMSL placed sixth overall with 159 points. Kaempfe led the men’s 8-kilometer race, maintaining a position at the front throughout and ultimately finishing ahead of Columbia College's Kalieb Redda by more than four seconds. His official time was 25:33.32.
Other notable finishers for UMSL included Luke Stevenson, who completed the course in 28:08.67; Devon Fanning, who finished at 28:34.23; Aaron Guss, who came in at 29:00.69; and Armando Montoya, whose time was 31:08.48.
On the women’s side, Bella Massaro was the top performer for UMSL, covering the 5-kilometer course in 21:20.10. She was followed by Bridget Ragan at 22:55.65, Hannah Richardson at 23:19.89, Dylan Jinks at 24:17.45, Ansley Casey at 26:20.92, and Zoey Losch at 29:59.16. The women’s team finished eighth with a total of 222 points.
UMSL is scheduled to compete next Friday, September 19th, at the Bradley Intercollegiate in Peoria, Illinois, where races will take place at Detweiler Park starting with the men's event at 5:15 p.m., followed by the women's race at 6 p.m.
