Missouri-St. Louis men’s tennis drops season opener to Missouri Baptist

The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team began its season with a 6-1 loss to Missouri Baptist on Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.

Missouri Baptist secured all three doubles matches, earning the opening point of the dual. UMSL's Percy Siercke and Daniel Berdecio were defeated by Luca Ebenriter and Sebastian Junghanns 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. In the second doubles contest, Omar Farahat and Strahinja Radanovic overcame Henry Roberts and Joan Garros 6-3, while Ruslan Anurev and Arkhip Tokmakov beat Jose Yañez and Bautista Rooney 6-1.

UMSL’s only win came at No. 3 singles, where Henry Roberts outlasted Sebastian Junghanns in three sets. Roberts took the first set in a tiebreak 7-6 (7-4), lost the second set in another tiebreak 7-6 (7-5), but clinched victory with a 10-7 win in the third-set tiebreak.

At No. 1 singles, Siercke pushed Ebenriter to a deciding third set after splitting the first two sets (2-6, 6-4). The final set went to a tiebreak, with Ebenriter prevailing 10-8. Other singles results included Berdecio falling to Radanovic (3-6, 4-6), Rooney losing to Tokmakov (2-6, 2-6), Garros dropping his match against Anurev (3-6, 3-6), and Yañez being defeated by Farahat (6-7 [4-7], 1-6).

The Tritons will return to action on Friday, October 3, when they host William Woods at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
