The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team opened its home and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) season with a 1-1 draw against Drury at Don Dallas Field on Sunday afternoon. The result brings the Tritons to 0-1-2 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play, while Drury stands at 0-0-3 overall and also 0-0-1 in the GLVC.
UMSL took an early lead in the 23rd minute when Colton Milosch initiated an attack that led to Tommy Wortham delivering a cross into the penalty area. Michael Quinn was first to the ball, heading it past Drury goalkeeper Camden Meyer for his first goal of the season.
At halftime, UMSL held a 1-0 advantage despite being outshot by Drury five to three. However, the Tritons managed two shots on goal compared to one for the Panthers.
Drury leveled the match in the 62nd minute following an UMSL foul near midfield. Joe Loughnane sent a pass ahead to Mason Platts, who collected it on the left side of the penalty area and scored his first goal of the season with a shot inside the right post.
UMSL had opportunities to regain the lead during a ten-minute span in the second half. The most notable chance came in the 78th minute when Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss fired a shot from central range, but Meyer made a diving save to preserve the tie.
The Tritons finished with a slight edge in shots, outshooting Drury seven to four after halftime and ten to nine overall, including five shots on target versus four for Drury.
UMSL will continue its three-game homestand this Friday, September 19, hosting Rockhurst at Don Dallas Field at 7:30 p.m.
