The University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL) Tritons athletics teams are preparing for a busy week with several competitions scheduled from September 15 to 21.
On Friday, September 19, the volleyball team will play two matches in Boca Raton, Florida. The first match is at noon against top-ranked Lynn, followed by a 3 p.m. game against Flagler. The women’s soccer team will host Rockhurst at Don Dallas Field at 5 p.m., while both men’s and women’s cross country teams compete in the Bradley Intercollegiate meet in Peoria, Illinois, starting at 5:15 p.m. Men’s soccer will also face Rockhurst at Don Dallas Field later that evening at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule features another volleyball match for UMSL as they take on Palm Beach Atlantic in West Palm Beach, Florida at 9 a.m.
Sunday sees both soccer teams hosting Southwest Baptist at Don Dallas Field; the women play at noon and the men follow at 2:30 p.m.
In last week’s competition, the volleyball team posted a strong showing by winning three out of four matches during Nebraska-Kearney's Rosella Meier Fall Classic. "Skylar Weaver continued her strong play averaging 6.1 digs per set in the four matches played," according to UMSL Athletics.
Cross country runner Will Kaempfe secured his second consecutive victory by winning the men's 8K race at the Larry Young Invitational with a time of 25:33.32. The men’s team finished sixth overall with 159 points. On the women's side, Bella Massaro led her teammates with a time of 21:20.10 over five kilometers as the squad placed eighth overall with 222 points.
The women’s golf team recorded its first event win this season by capturing the title at the UIndy Fall Invitational held last Monday and Tuesday in Henryville, Indiana. They finished with a total score of 869 over three rounds (289-285-295). "Hillary Currier was the team's top finisher coming in third with a final score of 213 (72-72-69). She and Wilma Zanderau were named to the All-Tournament team," said UMSL Athletics.
Men's soccer finished last week without a win but managed one draw out of two games played. "They dropped a 2-1 decision at Roosevelt on Wednesday evening with Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss accounting for the goal," noted UMSL Athletics staff. In their Great Lakes Valley Conference opener Sunday against Drury, Michael Quinn scored for UMSL in what ended as a draw.
The women's soccer team also went winless but earned one point from their tie against Drury after losing earlier to Northwest Missouri State by one goal midweek. "Natalie Scott scored her first goal of the season in Sunday's contest," according to UMSL Athletics.
For tennis, UMSL men's squad opened its fall campaign falling to Missouri Baptist by a score of 6-1 last Friday; Henry Roberts claimed victory over Sebastian Junghanns for their lone point. Meanwhile, "the Tritons defeated Missouri Baptist 7-0 last Friday" on the women's side before competing Saturday in Southeast Missouri State's Redhawk Fall Tournament where Hannah Tse, Aleksandra Lopez, Millie Wileman, Morgan Lint and Anna Favaron all went undefeated that day.
