Don Dallas Soccer Field | Missouri St. Louis Tritons
The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team secured its first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Southwest Baptist on Sunday at Don Dallas Field. This result brings the Tritons' record to 1-1-3 overall and 1-0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), while the Bearcats fall to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Southwest Baptist controlled much of the early action, outshooting UMSL 7-3 in the opening stages, though both teams managed two shots on target during that period. The momentum shifted late in the first half as UMSL began creating more scoring opportunities.
The decisive moment came in the 38th minute when Colton Milosch won possession near the penalty area and was fouled inside the box. Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss converted the resulting penalty kick, placing his shot inside the left post for his second goal of the season.
UMSL nearly doubled its lead before halftime, but Solomon Wanyonyi's attempt went just wide. In the second half, Roman Ryabchenko and Wanyonyi each had strong chances to extend UMSL's advantage but were denied by SBU goalkeeper Jan-Henry Schafer. Ryabchenko had another opportunity late in the match, again stopped by Schafer.
Southwest Baptist pressed for an equalizer in the closing minutes, but UMSL goalkeeper Jack Franklin made key saves to secure his first collegiate win and shutout.
UMSL finished with a 17-9 advantage in total shots and led 8-3 in shots on goal. Ramirez Aoueiss put all three of his attempts on target, while Ryabchenko, Wanyonyi, Max Matarelli, Kyler Sorber, and Connor Randel each recorded two shots. Franklin made three saves during the match.
The Tritons will next play against Missouri S&T this Friday at S&T Soccer Field in Rolla, Missouri. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
