The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Missouri S&T on Friday evening at Allgood-Bailey Stadium in Rolla, Missouri. Ella Anselm scored the only goal of the match in the 84th minute, giving the Tritons their third consecutive win and improving their record to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Miners dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference games.
The result ended a six-game winless streak for UMSL against Missouri S&T, marking their first win over the Miners since October 5, 2018.
The match remained scoreless until late in the second half. Taylor Martin headed the ball forward to Aubree Wallace, who then passed to Anselm. Anselm moved wide and shot across goal, sending the ball off the left post and into the net for her first collegiate goal.
UMSL created early opportunities with Maddie Clark's sixth-minute shot saved by Miners goalkeeper Anastasia Barcom. Natalie Scott had another chance in the 12th minute but missed wide to the left.
Missouri S&T outshot UMSL 18-13; however, UMSL held a 7-3 advantage in shots on target. Rachel Skyberg led UMSL with two shots on goal, while Julia Lammert and Ella Anselm also recorded two shots each.
Goalkeeper Rylee Griffith made three saves for her third straight shutout and fourth of the season.
UMSL will next play Lincoln on Sunday at Jefferson City High School Soccer Field at noon.
