The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team ended its three-game unbeaten run with a 2-0 defeat against Missouri S&T on Friday in Rolla, Missouri. The Tritons' record now stands at 1-2-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), while the Miners improved to 4-1-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Missouri S&T opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Joseph Sommer assisted Mike Banasik, who scored his second goal of the season by beating UMSL goalkeeper Jack Franklin.
UMSL created opportunities to equalize in both halves. In the first half, Kyler Sorber's attempt towards the upper left corner was saved by Cavitt Bruhn in the 20th minute. Alexander Ramirez Aoueiss also challenged Bruhn with a shot to the lower right corner in the 33rd minute, but Bruhn made another save.
During the second half, UMSL pressed for an equalizer and took five shots, two of which were on target, but could not score.
Missouri S&T secured their win with a second goal from Joao Vieira, assisted by Jake Salazar-Blair, with less than 14 minutes remaining.
UMSL outshot Missouri S&T 10-9 during the match and had seven corner kicks compared to three for Missouri S&T. However, the Miners had four shots on goal versus three for UMSL.
Benjamin Ocampo led UMSL with four shots, including one on target. Sorber and Ramirez Aoueiss each recorded two shots. Franklin finished with two saves.
The Tritons will finish their road trip on Sunday when they travel to Jefferson City to face Lincoln at Jefferson City High School Soccer Field at 2:30 p.m.
