Don Dallas Soccer Field | Missouri St. Louis Tritons
Maddie Clark scored her first goal of the season in the 19th minute, leading the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over McKendree on Friday evening at Don Dallas Field. With this win, the Tritons improved their record to 6-2-2 overall and 5-0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), while McKendree dropped to 6-1-4 overall and 6-1-1 in conference play.
Clark's goal came after Josie Maddox sent a ball across the face of the goal from the endline. Ella Anselm and Peyton Baker both attempted to reach it, causing the ball to deflect toward Clark at the top of the box. Clark then sent a shot into the top netting for what would be her first goal as a Triton and ultimately, the game-winner.
Anselm had two opportunities in the second half that required saves from Bearcats goalkeeper Peyton Baker, keeping UMSL’s lead at one goal.
Goalkeeper Rylee Griffith maintained UMSL’s advantage with a diving save late in the match on a McKendree free kick from about 25 yards out following a foul by Taylor Martin. Griffith finished with four saves, earning her fifth shutout of the season.
UMSL outshot McKendree 18-12, with six shots on target. Anselm led all players with six shots—three on goal—while Clark had four attempts, including her decisive score.
The Tritons will conclude their home stand with a Sunday afternoon match against Illinois-Springfield (2-6-3, 1-5-2 GLVC) at noon at Don Dallas Field.
