The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's tennis team was defeated by Maryville University with a score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
Maryville secured the opening point by winning all three doubles matches. In the first doubles contest, Percy Siercke and Daniel Berdecio were beaten by Michael Delaloye and Diego Alvarez 6-1. Joan Garros and Henry Roberts lost to Jack Quilty and Markos Prentits 6-1, while Bautista Rooney and Jose Yañez also fell 6-1.
Daniel Berdecio earned a win for UMSL in singles play, defeating Lorenzo Biava in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 2 singles. Henry Roberts added another point for the Tritons with a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the third singles match.
However, Maryville won the remaining four singles matches to secure the overall victory. Percy Siercke lost to Michael Delaloye 6-3, 6-1; Joan Garros was defeated by Jack Quilty in a close match, 3-6, 7-5, 0-1; Jose Yañez lost to Maksim Chemogorov 6-2, 6-3; and Andrea Ricart was beaten by Markos Prentits 6-2, 6-2.
UMSL will conclude its fall schedule next Sunday (October 19), when it hosts Missouri Valley at Dwight Davis Tennis Center at 4 p.m.
