The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team has been selected to finish third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Preseason Poll, according to an announcement from the league office on Tuesday. The poll, which ranks all 15 teams in predicted order of finish, is determined by votes from GLVC coaches.
UMSL received 161 points in the poll. Last season, the Tritons posted a 21-12 record and went 15-5 in conference play. They were runners-up in the GLVC Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the third time in four years. The team returns three players from last year’s squad, including Quenton Parker, who averaged 4.0 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game.
Missouri S&T was picked as the favorite to win the league this season after claiming last year’s regular season title. The Miners earned 196 points and secured 14 out of a possible 15 first-place votes; conference rules prevent schools from voting for themselves. Lincoln University, last season's GLVC champion, was chosen second with 174 points and received one first-place vote.
Rockhurst finished fourth in the poll with 141 points, while Drury rounded out the top five with 121 points.
Season tickets for UMSL men’s basketball are now available at $126 for adults and $100 for children. Single-game tickets will go on sale starting Monday, October 27.
UMSL begins its season next Saturday, November 1, at the D2 CCA Tip-off Classic held at St. Joseph Civic Arena in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Tritons will face Northwest Missouri State at 7 p.m., followed by a game against Missouri Western on Sunday, November 2 at 6 p.m.
The home opener is scheduled for Friday, November 21 against UHSP at the Mark Twain Building with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
