The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) women's soccer team saw its seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss to Illinois Springfield on Sunday at Don Dallas Field. With this result, UMSL's record stands at 6-3-2 overall and 5-1-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), while the Prairie Stars move to 3-6-3 overall and 2-5-2 in conference play.
The decisive moment came in the 61st minute when Illinois Springfield was awarded a penalty kick following a foul near the edge of the box. Mallory Herber converted the opportunity, sending her shot into the top of the net past Tritons goalkeeper Rylee Griffith.
Earlier in the match, Griffith made a key save in the 23rd minute, tipping Rachel Riney's volley over the crossbar to keep the score level.
UMSL had opportunities to equalize late in the game. In the 79th minute, Avery Hesseldenz created space inside the penalty area but was denied by Prairie Stars goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich, who saved her low shot. Rachel Skyberg led UMSL with three shots, while Aubree Wallace put both of her attempts on target.
Despite outshooting Illinois Springfield 21-7 and holding a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal, UMSL was unable to find an equalizer.
The Tritons will be back on the road next weekend as they travel to face Indianapolis at Key Stadium on Friday, October 17 at 4 p.m.
