Four Tritons score double digits in win over Northern Michigan

The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's basketball team secured an 80-67 victory over Northern Michigan on Saturday at the Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. With this win, the Tritons move to a 2-2 record for the season, while the Wildcats fall to 1-1.

UMSL trailed early in the game but quickly responded with a 12-3 run led by Makeer Makeer and Jayden Creighton, who together scored nine points during that stretch. The Tritons maintained their lead for the remainder of the contest.

Northern Michigan managed to reduce UMSL's lead to five points in the first half, but back-to-back three-pointers from Quenton Parker and Makeer helped extend it again. By halftime, UMSL led by 14 points after a strong offensive performance that included shooting 58 percent from the field and making four out of seven three-point attempts.

Taye Moore and Jake Hamilton each contributed nine points in the first half, while Makeer added eight off the bench and Creighton had six. The Tritons continued their efficient play into the second half, increasing their advantage to as many as 21 points following a layup by Moore.

Although Northern Michigan narrowed the margin to ten with under seven minutes left in regulation, UMSL maintained control and finished ahead by thirteen points. For the game, UMSL shot 55 percent from the field and made seven of fifteen shots from beyond the arc. The team also outrebounded Northern Michigan 36-27.

Moore led all scorers with 22 points, followed by Makeer with 20. Hamilton and Creighton each recorded twelve points; Hamilton also grabbed eight rebounds while Miles Boland provided five assists.

For Northern Michigan, Dylan Kuehl scored nineteen points as his team shot 41 percent overall but struggled from long range, converting only three of twenty-three attempts.

UMSL will return home for its next game on Friday, November 21 against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Mark Twain Building starting at 6 p.m.
