493 coaches at institutions in St. Louis County earned $36,683 on average in 2022

St. Louis County’s 493 coaches earned an average salary of $36,683 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the 15th lowest average salary per county earned by coaches at Missouri post-secondary schools during 2022.

St. Louis County is home to seven post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, Washington University in St. Louis stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $77,956.

Male coaches of men's teams received $40,668 on average in St. Louis County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $36,368.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
