FOIA Request to Northwest Missouri State University regarding Chinese National students on June 16, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to Northwest Missouri State University by North STL News on June 16, 2025. The request seeks detailed information about Chinese National students enrolled at the university. Specifically, the request is made under the Missouri Sunshine Law § 610.023 et seq., and it asks for several categories of records.

The first part of the request asks for documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their department of study. If such information is protected, a total number of these students and a breakdown by department is requested instead.

The second part requests documentation listing all current Chinese National students along with details about scholarships they receive, including amounts and sources.

The third request seeks information on scholarship recipients affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council, asking for identification of any relevant scholarships from the previous list if applicable.

Additionally, the FOIA request includes a call for any policies or procedures that describe how the university monitors its students, including Chinese Nationals, to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

This FOIA request was submitted by North STL News in conjunction with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, North STL News has requested a fee waiver due to its role in gathering and reporting news to the public.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
