Tritons volleyball extends winning streak to 14 after sweeping McKendree

The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team achieved its 14th consecutive win with a 3-0 victory over McKendree on Friday evening at Chuck Smith Court in the Mark Twain Building. The Tritons now hold a record of 21-4 overall and remain undefeated in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) at 11-0, while McKendree falls to 5-20, 3-8 GLVC.

UMSL started slowly, trailing early in the first set before scoring seven out of nine points to take a lead after a kill from Hannah Copeland. The advantage grew to ten points at 22-12 following a kill by Iyannah Jackson. McKendree narrowed the gap but could not catch up, as Maggie Johnson’s kill secured the opening set for UMSL at 25-16.

Johnson led UMSL with four kills in the first set, while Copeland, Alayna Santel, and Bridget Cassady each added three kills. The Tritons posted a .273 hitting percentage in that stanza.

In the second set, UMSL again fell behind early but responded by outscoring McKendree 24-8 for a decisive 25-12 win. Addison Voorhees led with four kills on five attempts as the team hit .483 for the frame.

The third set saw UMSL jump ahead quickly and maintain control throughout, winning 25-9 with Santel and Voorhees leading with three kills each. The Tritons recorded a .476 hitting percentage in this final set.

Overall, eight different Tritons players registered kills during the match. Johnson and Santel each finished with nine kills; Voorhees and Copeland had seven apiece. Caitlin Bishop contributed 32 assists; Santel also tallied three aces and eleven digs.

Defensively, UMSL limited McKendree to just .023 hitting efficiency. Avery Guisinger led McKendree with six kills; Peyton Uptgraft had eighteen assists and Ashlyn Berczynski made eight digs.

The Tritons will continue their homestand next Friday against William Jewell at the Mark Twain Building, where seniors Rylee Edson, Bishop, Jackson, and Copeland will be recognized before play begins.
