Missouri St. Louis men's soccer edges Upper Iowa in close match

The University of Missouri-St. Louis men's soccer team secured a 3-2 victory over Upper Iowa at Don Dallas Field on Friday. The Tritons' record now stands at 5-4-5 overall and 4-3-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Upper Iowa drops to 3-9-2 overall and 2-7-2 in conference play.

Isaac Valverde scored the decisive goal in the 65th minute, finishing a cross from Melo Mensah at the far post to give UMSL a 3-1 lead. Upper Iowa initially took the lead in the 26th minute when Timur Nagy scored off a pass from Alejandro Sanchez.

Benjamin Ocampo responded for UMSL in the 40th minute, scoring his first collegiate goal after a sequence involving Gibson Hunt and Mensah. Ocampo added another goal early in the second half, assisted again by Hunt and Mensah.

Upper Iowa was reduced to ten men after a red card in the 77th minute but managed to score in the 86th minute. Florian Deick headed in a corner from Sanchez to narrow the deficit to one goal with four minutes remaining.

UMSL outshot Upper Iowa 16-10. Tritons goalkeeper Jack Franklin recorded three saves during the match.

The Tritons will play their final home game of the regular season against Quincy on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Senior day celebrations will follow the match.
