The University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory over Missouri S&T at the Mark Twain Building on Friday, extending their winning streak to 10 matches. The Tritons now hold a 17-4 overall record and remain undefeated in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) at 7-0. Missouri S&T dropped to 5-15 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
Senior setter Caitlin Bishop reached a career milestone during the match, surpassing 5,000 career assists and becoming only the second player in program history to achieve this mark. Head coach Ryan Young also reached a significant achievement, recording his 300th career win.
The Tritons overcame an early deficit in the first set with a 14-5 run, taking a 17-10 lead. Iyannah Jackson and Maggie Johnson each contributed three kills during the run, while Alayna Santel and Bridget Cassady added two kills apiece. UMSL closed out the first set with a 25-14 win, hitting .467 as a team. Johnson led with seven kills in the opening frame.
Missouri S&T responded in the second set, hitting .500 and holding UMSL to a .171 hitting percentage. The Miners led by as many as 13 points and took the set 25-14.
UMSL regained momentum in the third set, starting with a 6-1 lead before S&T rallied to go ahead 12-11. The Tritons then scored 12 of the next 13 points, including an eight-point service run from Lydia Hartman, to win the set 25-16.
In the fourth set, UMSL maintained control after jumping out to a 5-2 lead and eventually closed out the match with a 25-17 win. Johnson finished with a career-high 21 kills. Santel recorded 15 kills and Jackson added 13. Bishop had seven digs in addition to her assists, Jackson contributed three blocks, and Skylar Weaver tallied 28 digs.
Missouri S&T finished with a .259 hitting percentage. Lexi Kosmopolis led the Miners with 17 kills and 10 digs. Elise Mahaffey recorded 20 assists and Avery Patton had five blocks.
UMSL will conclude its homestand on Saturday with a match against Maryville at the Mark Twain Building.
