Jackson sets career high as Tritons defeat Maryville University

University of Missouri-St. Louis middle blocker Iyannah Jackson achieved a personal milestone in the Tritons’ 3-1 victory over Maryville University on Saturday at the Mark Twain Building. The win brings UMSL’s record to 18-4 overall and an undefeated 8-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Maryville drops to 11-10, with a conference record of 4-3.

Jackson recorded a career-high 24 kills with only one error on 42 attempts, hitting .548 for the match. She also contributed one solo block and three assisted blocks, totaling 26.5 points. Through the first two sets, Jackson had already tallied 15 kills and hit .681.

Alayna Santel added 18 kills, while Maggie Johnson finished with 16 for UMSL. The team’s total of 73 kills is their highest in a single match this season.

Caitlin Bishop completed her weekend performance with 64 assists, averaging 16 per set. Skylar Weaver added another 27 assists.

UMSL started strong by hitting .432 in the opening set, recording 20 kills against one error on their way to a 25-17 win. In the second set, they continued their efficient offense with a .405 hitting percentage and secured a 25-19 victory.

Maryville responded in the third set with a nine-point run that led them to a lead they maintained for a final score of 25-20. The Saints held UMSL to its lowest hitting percentage of the match at .098 during this frame.

In the fourth set, UMSL pulled ahead after leading narrowly at 11-10 by finishing on a decisive run and winning the set, and match, at 25-15. Johnson and Santel combined for twelve kills during this period.

Maryville ended with a .232 hitting percentage and was led by Ella Brinkman’s twelve kills. Taylor Reynolds provided twenty-two assists while Olivia Klump added twenty-four more; Lily Brown and Leslie Longanbach each had four blocks.

UMSL will begin its final regular-season road trip next Friday when it faces Indianapolis at Ruth Lilly Fitness Center at five p.m., Central Daylight Time.
